Biography

Slayn Velorian was born in the final years of the last Creation, beneath a storm so fierce that the bells of the Heartlands’ greatest cathedral rang without hands to pull them. The priests of the Order of the Dawnlight believed the storm marked the stirring of the Divine — and that the child born beneath it would one day be bound to that awakening.

Raised within the Cathedral of the Seventh Choir, Slayn grew among monks, incense, and rituals older than history. Quiet and introspective, he showed compassion above all else. But wherever he walked, miracles followed: wounds closed, candles flared, relics chimed beneath his touch. His earliest memories were of searing wings and fire behind them — visions that terrified the Choir’s elders.

Among the few who treated him as more than a vessel was Addalin, a young Templar knight assigned to guard and escort the Choir’s novices. Addy was sharp, witty, fiercely protective, and entirely unimpressed by titles. While others whispered rumors that Slayn was “touched,” Addy spoke to him as a person — even teasing him in ways that both grounded and disarmed him.

Her presence became an unexpected source of ease amid the growing pressure of expectations placed upon him. Though they were young, an unspoken bond grew between them — one forged through shared moments of quiet faith, training yard exchanges, and a mutual understanding of the burdens they each carried.

By seventeen, Slayn’s healing gifts had surpassed anything the Choir could control. During the Feast of Radiance, he restored life to a dying pilgrim before the entire congregation. Instead of celebrating him, the High Prelate declared his power “unbound” and therefore dangerous.

Slayn was seized by the Inquisition of the White Pyre, interrogated, and confined beneath the cathedral. Throughout his torment, Addalin defied orders to visit him in secret, offering stolen moments of comfort, whispered promises, and unwavering loyalty.

When the Synod decreed Slayn’s writings to be The Heresy of Mercy and sentenced him to purification by flame, Addalin made a choice that severed her from the Templar order forever. Alongside Brother Merek — Slayn’s mentor — she aided his escape in the dead of night, fighting through the cloisters with the fury of a storm.

They fled into exile together.

Beyond the grasp of the Church that had raised — and sought to destroy — them.

In the years that followed, Slayn wandered the devastated world as a healer, with Addalin at his side as shield and sword. But when the Great Flood came — the divine unmaking that ended the age — they were separated amid the chaos. Slayn survived, carried by visions and the Consecrated Stave. Addy survived by strength alone, carving her way through calamity with sheer will.

They spent years searching across the reshaped world until fate finally drew them both to House Revenant, reuniting them at last.

In Ashenholde, their bond strengthened into a marriage that feels both inevitable and unshakeable — a union of mercy and might, devotion and defiance.

Today, Slayn walks the reborn lands guided by dreams commanding him to raise the Sepulchre Divinitatis and carve the Steps of Benediction. Addalin walks beside him, the blade that guards the light he bears.

Together, they stand at the edge of a destiny neither fully understands, bound by faith, by survival, and by the love that has endured creation’s end.
